"Veraison" (pronounced veh-ray-zohN) is a French viticultural term for the stage of wine grape berry development which marks the beginning of the ripening and sugar development, when the grapes change from the hard, green state to their softened and coloured form.

Sawtooth Tempranillo, Idaho 2005
“This January I went to a Tempranillo tasting where I tasted 14 Tempranillos from around the world blind. Not only was the Sawtooth one of the least expensive wines at the tasting, I chose it BLIND as my favorite!. Pretty aromatics of strawberry/cherry, forest floor, mushroom, and cedar. Smooth and silky on the palate with a long, lingering finish. I have long been a proponent of Tempranillo (the great red grape of Spain) as having unique potential in Idaho, though almost none is currently grown here. With only 2 acres planted, this is one of Sawtooth’s smallest production wines (150 cases). I hope to see more people following Brad Pintler’s lead and plant Tempranillo in Idaho’s Snake River Valley AVA.” - Erik
